Planes of Understanding in Science

In this episode, we compared and contrasted the fields of biochemistry and neuroscience (our two academic backgrounds). Specifically, we discussed how they require different ways of thinking, approaches, and research methods.

We discussed the concept of emergence, and why it is inevitable in neuroscience:

"From the origin of life to pandemics: emergent phenomena in complex systems" Oriol Artime and Manlio De Domenico https://royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rsta.2020.0410

"Emergence as the conversion of information: a unifying theory" Thomas F. Varley and Erik Hoel
